As this Friday, the film Thappad releases, the makers have got its approval from the Central Board of Film Certification or the CBFC, which is certainly a liberal mood. The board has cleared the film by Anubhav Sinha with U Certificate and it deals with the stark and real issue found in our society in the film shown on domestic violence. The film, however, has been added with the ‘U’ certificate as well considering the content of the movie. This is even more liberal than what we have seen the CBFC giving Anubhav Sinha’s previous film Article 15 as the ‘UA’ certificate.
As the news reached Taapsee Pannu the leading lady of the film, she was seen on top of the world. While talking about the same, she said she is happy with the ways in which the censor board has given the ratings. Even the director of the film, Anubhav is also with the same feelings. She added the young girls and boys would get educated with this film and should go and watch it. She justified saying so as the individual’s personality and the change in the mind-set begins at a very early in life. While the filmmaker said that he had never seen any problem with the ratings he has got from his films.
His previous film Mulk did pass through a few minor cuts, and he thanked the Censor Board for the same. He said he did this which perhaps no other filmmaker would do. However, when he talked about Thappad he felt that there would be a problem from the Censor Board, but it did not go as he expected and that made him pleased. He said he thought of discussing some experts about the CBFC issues that could come for his film but later submitted without it. And to his surprise, it did not hamper by any means as the censor board was quick to give him positive reviews with few minor cuts. He said as he did not get any major cuts, he now wants to thank everyone.
Talking about the cuts for his earlier films like Article 15, he got cuts only for the cuss words used in the film, which seemed some basic level cuts, which he and his team agreed readily. All they wanted was a few voice overs with a disclaimer at the bottom that seemed very much reasonable requests by the censor board. This made the filmmaker have faith in the censor board now. While talking about his film Thappad based on domestic violence, the filmmaker said that he wants the young minds to watch and see it just to respect people in a mutual relationship, which seems very much vital. In order to inculcate the respect, you need to first show the disrespect said the director. And then added saying that do not just forget that one slap can change your life in a relationship.
